Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop & Link Party #232

Hello friends! Can you believe it's almost April??  Before we know it, it will be time for Summer BBQ's!!  My favorite thing this week was... Easter!!  Easter day we went on a hike with relatives - 6 miles, which was a lot for me. I was sore! But that's okay, I had to work off some Easter chocolates!!

A Diptyque "Baies" Candle Review and Cheap Copycat!

I've written before about my love for the Baies candle made by Diptyque.  But I do not love the price!  It's such a special smelling candle that I don't want to burn it... but then at the same time, it smells so good I *need* to burn it!  The copycat I found is approximately half the price of Diptyque!  This candle will make your home smell like a little slice of France!

By the way, "Baies" is pronounced like "Bay".
A Diptyque Baies Copycat Candle
The "Baies" candle by Diptyque is made with Bulgarian roses and black currant leaves.  It is $60 for 6.5 ounces with an estimated burn time of 60 hours. There is a smaller candle (the one I have, pictured below) that goes for $32 for 2.4 ounces. The smaller candle estimated burn time is $30 hours.

A Diptyque Baies Copycat Candle and Review
The copycat candle is the Henri Bendel "Black Currant" candle.   This candle contains fresh rose, black currant, cassis, and musk.  The top note is the black currant.  It is really delightful!  It is $30 for 9.4 ounces.  The burn time is estimated to be 60 hours.

A Diptyque Baies Copycat Candle and Review

My final thoughts:

The Henri Bendel candle smells very similar to the Diptyque candle.  The Dipytque has a little more hint of rose to it, but I think for half the price I'll stick with the Henri Bendel candle for most occasions.  Although, the packaging on the Diptyque candle is more charming!  If you love the Baies candle but don't love the price, I highly suggest buying the Bendel copycat instead!  Get the Henri Bendel copycat Black currant candle here, or splurge and get the original Diptyque Baies here.  If you don't like candles, I've just discovered Baies comes in a room spray that I just purchased and I love it! Get the room spray here!

Here are some hints about keeping your candle in tip-top burning shape!  After all, even the copycat candle is not super cheap!

First Time Burning the Candle
Allow it to burn for 2 hours, until the whole top is liquid with wax. This helps it burn evenly in future burns.

Trimming the Wick
Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to 1/4 inch length.  This helps it burn more slowly and avoids the ugly smoke marks on your candle.

Burning the Candle
Do not burn your candle for more than 3-4 hours at a time.  I heard from the Diptyque salesman that the little candles are only supposed to be burned 1 hour at a time!

Realigning the Wick
After blowing out the candle, realign and straight the wick to the center, if it moved!

Oh, Henri Bendel and Diptyque both did not pay me to write this.

What to Do in Paris

I have noticed a surge in searches for vacations in Paris recently.  I thought I would round up all of my posts from my trip to Paris last year! I didn't realize how many posts I wrote until now! Wow, what can I say? J'adore Paris!  I actually just added this post to my pages, as I know these are really popular posts!  You can now visit this post any time at the top of my site under "Trip to Paris".

First things first though, as I get a lot of questions about how to dress like a Parisian.  Here's the simplest way to dress like a Parisian:

Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop and Link Party #230

Welcome back for another week of Thursday Favorite Things!!  I am so happy that we have sprung forward with the time change... it's finally not dark at 5pm!

This week my favorite things are these pretty daffodils that I put in my new bunny vase.  I just love the bunny vase so much, I plan to use him past Easter!  Unfortunately he is sold out from Williams-Sonoma, but I found a very similar bunny vase here!

Easter Centerpiece 2016

I changed the decorations in my antique dough bowl!  I just love this dough bowl as it is so much fun to decorate.  I had fun putting together this little Easter vignette using my little Steiff mohair bunnies and friends.

Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop and Link Party #229

We're back with another Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop! If this is your first time here, this is a blog link party featured across twelve different blogs! I know it's technically Wednesday night, but it is already Thursday across the pond and that's why it's called Thursday Favorite Things.

My favorite thing this week was going to San Francisco with my husband.  We walked 5 miles (in what turned out to be record rainfall for the city).  By the way, um, 5 miles in San Francisco isn't so easy. The map forgot to include the *steep* inclines on some of the hills!!  Anyway, now onto this week's features...

Dining Room Inspiration - Which Way to Arrange the Table?

When designing the dining room, I was faced with the question: Which way do you want to have your table facing?

Frankly it was something I hadn't given any thought.  Then I started thinking... when I walk into a room, do I like seeing my table head-on first or seeing the side of the table first? Um, both??  I have to choose though.  So I went to the 'net. What do the designers do?

This is what I mean by seeing the table head-on first:  You are able to look down both sides of the table.  The table is sitting parallel in the room.

I just love decorating for Easter!  After a boring colorless Winter after Christmas, pulling out Easter decorations is so much fun!  The bright colors are so cheery, how can  you not smile when you see them?
